Three-star LB Kaleb Burns commits to Texas Tech

The last 24 hours have been whirlwind for Houston (Texas) Cypress Fall three-star linebacker Kaleb Burns.

After some late Sunday night conversations and Burns going back and forth on what his commitment decision would be, the three-star defender has announced his commitment to Texas Tech.

Burns chose the Red Raiders over SMU, who was in the race until the very last minute.

Burns commented on his decision, which was ultimately decided upon in the late hours of Sunday night.

"Texas Tech has always shown me love. Coach (Josh) Bookbinder will develop me not into just a great player but a great man as well. I can’t wait to be apart of their defense."

SMU was in a strong spot to land Burns. But Burns was open that the final conversation is what swayed him to his final decision.

"What helped them win was really just the last talk we had, they gave me facts others didn’t capitalize on."

Burns' recruitment exploded after a breakout junior campaign that saw him rack up 73 total tackles, 18.5 tackles-for-loss, six sacks, two pass deflections, and an interception.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder is in line for an even bigger senior season.

The addition of Burns is the 18th commitment of the 2025 cycle for Texas Tech. He is the second linebacker of the class. 13 of 18 Texas Tech pledges are from the state of Texas.
