Mitchell Thomas has been rumored as a lock for the Crimson
Tide for most of the fall, but he maintains that his recruitment is still
open.
"Alabama is my favorite," he said. "They're real
strong up at the top of my list and all, but I really want to go through the
process and try to take some visits before I make up my mind. I know they're
running out of scholarships and all, but their coaches told me to go ahead
and do that, that they're standing by me and will hold a scholarship.
They've shown me a lot of respect that way."
Thomas (6-3, 212, 4.5) is a member of the Rivals.com
Alabama
Top 30 team and the No. 24 outside linebacker in the nation.
In addition to the Crimson Tide, he's also entertaining offers from Notre
Dame, Auburn, South Carolina, Florida and Vanderbilt.
"Notre Dame is real attractive to me," he said.
"That's a great football and educational opportunity. It's hard to ignore. I
really like coach (Ty) Willingham a lot, too. It's very impressive what he's
done with their program in such a short time."
Thomas has official visits set up for Alabama (12/6)
and Notre Dame (12/13). The other four schools will vie for the remaining
three slots.
"I haven't decided if I'll take those yet," he said.
"But I probably will."
Thomas finished his senior season with 70 tackles
and five sacks for Smiths Station.
