Three-star has a change of heart

Fast rising three-star defensive tackle Fred Thompson (6-4, 290, 5.1) from Oakland (Calif.) Tech has had a change of heart and he won't be visiting UCLA on an unofficial basis this coming weekend as was his previous plan.
Instead of visiting UCLA on an unofficial basis, Thompson has decided to visit the Westwood campus on an official visit and will do so with his good friend and Tech teammate, Ryan Murphy.

"I spoke with my family about it and came to the conclusion with the options that I have, it was kind of like and no offense for not taking my Washington State trip, as they are still one of my options, but I have talked to a lot of people, who have been there so I kind of have an understanding, even though there is nothing like being there yourself, but I have received a lot of different perspectives about the school (Washington State) from people that have been there," Thompson said. "For me, I felt that visiting UCLA would be a good trip."
"I am going with on the visit with Ryan (Murphy)," Thompson said. "We leave at 2:00 today (Friday Jan. 8).
"I have an official visit to Oregon State next week," Thompson said. "After my Oregon State visit, I'm going to sit down and discuss everything with y family then I'll make my decision.
"I kind of have my top schools and I'm kind of feeling where I want to go, but I won't know for sure until after I take all of my trips."
Thompson was League Defensive Player of the Year and was first-team all-city as a junior. He made first-team all-city as a senior. Interesting enough, according to Thompson his league didn't have defensive Player of the Year in 2009.
