Three-star defensive end Giovani Francois has set two official visits in January. The Florida transplant that spent half of his 2010 season at Upper Marlboro (Md.) Wise discussed those trips and what's next.
"I've got visits scheduled to Cincinnati on January 7th and Florida International on January 14th," he said. "I have offers right now from Florida International, Louisville and Western Kentucky.
"Cincinnati is looking, and I think they'll offer once I get on campus. They say they really like the way I play and I play a lot like Shawn Merriman, I'm a physical playmaker."
A few other schools are looking at him as well.
"I'm hearing from Michigan State, Mississippi State, Maryland and last week Northwestern called my coach," he said. "I've heard Temple is interested in me as well."
Meanwhile, Florida International is set to get the other visit coming up and he discussed that.
"FIU has been with me since my junior year," he said. "I have a great relationship with Coach Smith and they are always in touch. My mom would love for me to play there so she can come to my games."
Francois moved to Maryland from Florida in October and finished the year playing six games for Wise as he posted 30 tackles and seven sacks while earning all-metro honors.
The year was enough to land Francois opportunities in the Crab Bowl and Chesapeake Bowl.
"They went well," he said. "It was nice to see a lot of different types of athletes. I finished with a sack and two or three tackles for loss. I had a pretty good game.
"I definitely learned a lot. I learned some new pass rush moves and I loved it. It was great."
The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder plans to take more visits later this month, but has not scheduled any others at this point in time.
