Three-star DT Devan Rogers staying in-state

Sidney, Ohio three-star defensive tackle Devan Rogers held offers from several out-of-state Power Five programs, but on Saturday evening he announced he would be staying close to home and playing for the Toledo Rockets.

“I chose Toledo because whenever I visit there I just feel comfortable,” Rogers said. “I feel comfortable around the coaches and the players.”

Although Rogers waited until Saturday evening to announce his commitment, he actually revealed his choice to the Toledo coaches much earlier in the week.

“I told them Monday,” Rogers said. “They were excited and they can’t wait for me to come up there.”

Rogers’ home-town of Sidney is located only about 100 miles down I-75 from Toledo’s campus, and that proximity to home was key in landing the in-state defender.

“I chose the local school because I want my family to be there all the time, and I’d also like my friends to attend my games too,” Rogers said.

The 6-foot-1, 305-pound Rogers is the first three-star commitment in Toledo’s 2018 class. He also held offers from the likes of Iowa State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Bowling Green and Western Michigan.
