Three-star DE picks California

Evan Weaver traveled up and down the West Coast in search of his perfect fit and, on Friday, the three-star defensive end finally found it.
Weaver, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect from Spokane (Wash.) Gonzaga Prep, verbally committed California while on a visit to campus, capping a busy itinerary that began some eight months ago.

WHAT'S NEXT?: Weaver, the No. 10-rated prospect in the state of Washington, said he's completely locked in with the Golden Bears and doesn't anticipate taking official visits to any other schools. Gonzaga Prep kicks off the season Sept. 4.
IN HIS WORDS: "It's a great fit for me as a player," Weaver told Rivals.com. "I love the Bay Area and everything about Cal. The education is unreal and we're going to be a program on the rise. The offense is there right now, and now we just need a few players on defense to turn this baby around.
"We're trying to take it back to what it was like in the early 2000s, and we're almost there. I truly think we can get there."
RIVALS' REACTION: The pick up is a big one for second-year defensive line coach Fred Tate, especially because Cal beat out a few other Pac-12 programs for the pledge. Weaver recently visited Arizona and also established great relationships at nearby Washington State, but the Golden Bears won out after wooing him one last time. He became the third defensive end in Cal's recruiting class, and with his size and quickness, could be a candidate for early playing time next fall.
