Three-star center takes the next step

When Slidell, La. offensive center Alex Hill camped at LSU in June he didn't earn a scholarship offer from the Tigers but he was told what was needed in order for that offer to come. When Hill returned to camp in July, he accomplished exactly what the LSU coaches were hoping to see but was it too late?

"I had the best camp I've ever had," Hill said. "I improved in everything. They told me I looked like a completely different person out there. Two days before I was out on our practice field working out for six hours and they said it showed.

"I was at center when we took reps and I never gave up my spot and I only lost like two times in the 20 that we went. Then when we hit the pads, I was just giving everything I had. They said that I didn't look like that the first time. They said I looked like an SEC player that was capable of helping the team."

Despite his strong performance, it may be just too little too late for the talented lineman.

"Here's the thing," he explained. "The problem was that they already have four commits on the offensive line but they said that I did such a good job that if that spot comes open then it's mine."

Though LSU was at the top of his list were they to offer, all is not lost for Hill. This summer he has committed to playing the center position and several schools are very interested. Already with a host of offers led by a serious courtship from Missouri, Hill has options that are steadily increasing.

One school in particular that has shown significant interest despite not yet offering is Auburn. The interest on Hill's end is mutual.

"LSU was my last camp but I am taking an unofficial visit to Auburn tomorrow," he said. "I think I may get the big ticker (an offer) tomorrow. They would be at the top with Missouri if they offered. Actually that might be the one for me. I'll just see how I like it when we go up there and get the tour and everything."

Currently, Hill's top three consist of Missouri, Ole Miss and Auburn. To this point, Missouri is the only school that has stepped forward with an offer. On Friday, Hill will see if Auburn separates itself from the pack.

"The one thing I'm looking for is just to see how at home it feels on the campus," he said. "I hear it's beautiful and I just want to feel as at home as possible."
