Dejon Allen didn't feel he had the same relationship with the new Arizona State coaching staff like he did when coach Dennis Erickson was still in Tempe and so the Compton (Calif.) Dominguez three-star has decided to reopen his recruitment.
The 6-foot-3, 265-pound offensive guard said his top three are now Hawaii, Washington and Arizona and he's planning to take visits the next two weekends before making his decision.
"I just felt like I didn't have the relationship with the new coaches at Arizona State that I had with the old coaches and I really liked the old coaches," Allen said. "That was one of the main reasons I was going to go there.
"My top three right now are Hawaii, Washington and Arizona. I feel really good with how they are all recruiting me and I like the coaches at those schools a lot."
Allen, who originally committed to Arizona State in late May, has let on in recent weeks that he was considering other programs. He said at the Cal State Game that other teams interested him and he might look around a little more.
This weekend, the Compton Dominguez standout plans to visit Hawaii and then on Jan. 27 Allen is heading to Washington.
"Washington has been recruiting me for over a year and I'm going to visit there next weekend," Allen said. "They have a lot of things going for them right now and I'm excited to go up there.
"This weekend I'm going to go to Hawaii. Since the new coaches got there they have been recruiting me really hard and just came on strong and been telling me what I want to hear."
Rated as the No. 32 offensive guard in the 2012 class and No. 91 prospect in the California state rankings by Rivals.com, Allen said he doesn't plan to take an official visit to Arizona but the Wildcats are definitely still under consideration.
"I'm not going to visit Arizona officially but I've been to (the state of) Arizona before and I know what it's like," Allen said. "I think the coaches there will just come visit me and I know what we could do there if I go there so that's why I really like them.
"I'm definitely going to sign with one of those three schools and I'm probably going to decide on signing day. Right now I like all three of them about the same and that's why my visits are going to decide for me what I think I should do."
