Jaheim Merriweather was already familiar with Purdue after spending some time in West Lafayette earlier this spring. His relationship with the staff, particularly with running backs coach Lamar Conard, has developed so much that the three-star talent went ahead and committed to Boilermakers after a recent school visit by the staff.

"Me and Coach Conrad have a close relationship," Merriweather noted. "He always keeps it real with me. He's texted me almost every day since my 10th grade year to check on me and my family. He calls and checks on my Mom. He's like a father figure."

While listed as an athlete, Purdue likes the 6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect at running back and sees him as a big-time addition to their backfield.

"They like my size and speed," Merriweather noted. "Ball skills, change of direction, acceleration, ability to run through contact, balance and vision."

Merriweather chose the Boilermakers over the likes of West Virginia, Duke, Pitt, Kansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Louisville, and others.

He is currently ranked the No. 19 player in the state of Tennessee and the No. 53 athlete in the nation, according to Rivals.com.

Merriweather is the second Purdue commitment from the state of Tennessee, joining Clinton (Tenn.) safety D'Mon Marable, as the Boilermakers' 2024 class rises to seven total pledges.
