Three-point stance: Tennessees collapse

When looking at the Week In Commits there are a few that really stand out to me as interesting. As a great example of the sign of the times, four-star defensive end Isaiah Chambers committed to TCU over offers from Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, something that never would have happened five years ago.
And the Horned Frogs can certainly use the help on defense down the line as evidenced by the game this past weekend (yeah yeah, injuries and suspensions -- it still needs defensive playmakers). Baylor landed athlete Donovan Duvernay, essentially guaranteeing they get his twin brother, Devin Duvernay, who is one of the fastest and most explosive players in the country. Again, with offers from Texas, Oklahoma and a ton of others, Devin's impending commitment would have never happened five years ago.
OK, OK, he hasn't committed yet and has taken an official to LSU and was at Ohio State this past weekend, but please. When was the last time identical twins went to separate schools by choice?
LSU goes into Tennessee and takes away one of the best in the Vols home state for 2017, Jacoby Stevens. Colorado shows a sign of recruiting life for the first time in a while, landing four-star Craig Watts. And also in the "winning isn't everything" category, four-star Mississippi safety Jaquelle Green commits to a disappointing Louisville team and four-star Texas athlete Christian Wallace, who had a Texas offer by the way, picks Oregon State.
The biggest commitment of the week was 4-star safety/linebacker D.J. Morgan (pictured above) picking Notre Dame as the Irish continue to impress the heck out of me on the field by overcoming adversity. We have Morgan ranked higher than most others because we see a higher ceiling as either a huge safety or more likely as an aggressive outside linebacker.
3. Cal's fast start
How about those California Golden Bears?
Ranked No. 24 in the AP poll, undefeated and with the top QB in the country, at least when it comes to the drooling NFL scouts, the Bears are on a roll. Just over one season removed from a 1-11 disaster, Sonny Dykes has Cal rolling at the perfect time. Stanford is ranked ahead of the Bears, but stumbled in the loss to Northwestern and Oregon just got blown out by Utah. With two losses, the Ducks are outside the AP poll for the first time since 2009.
When competing with schools not named USC and UCLA for some of the top recruits in Pac-12 country, winning always helps. The stretch of Utah, UCLA, USC and Oregon will tell the tale for the Bears this year and will either make Jared Goff (pictured above) a ton of NFL money or lead to some questions about his ability in big games.
Whatever happens it's good to have Cal relevant again on the recruiting trail, ranked No. 18 currently after finishing 29th last season and a dismal 46th in 2014, something that hasn't really been the case since Tosh Lupoi took off.
