1. FIVE IMPRESSIVE THINGS ABOUT OKLAHOMA'S WIN OVER OHIO STATE

Following Oklahoma’s 31-16 drubbing at Ohio State, most of the national pundits - myself included - focused on what Ohio State did wrong and not enough of what Oklahoma did right. Let’s remedy that and put the Buckeyes aside completely, and just focus on what the Sooners did well.

Here are the five most impressive takeaways from Oklahoma's win:

1. The Sooners' offensive line – Everyone talked about how great the Ohio State defensive line was. It’s eight deep, it’s the best Greg Schiano has ever coached in college football or the NFL, they are all future NFL studs, on and on. You know what the Ohio State defensive line was? It was dominated. Not only did the Sooners' offensive line open holes to make the running game effective, but it protected Baker Mayfield beautifully. Mayfield was sacked twice and hurried twice by eight future pros? That’s a great job by the offensive line.

2. Baker Mayfield – This guy is a winner. Someone mentioned Brett Favre during the telecast and I can see the comparison. Mayfield doesn’t have the arm of Favre, but he has the same fanatical desire to win, leadership traits, toughness and ability to make something out of nothing. Mayfield's uncanny knack for making plays you just don’t think are possible makes him so dangerous and Ohio State had no answer for him. Plant that flag, Mayfield. You owned the Buckeyes and made it your home field.

3. The Oklahoma defense – I’ll address them as a unit although I could single out Ogbonnia Okoronkwo for being so disruptive. From the pass rush to the linebackers closing quickly and dropping perfectly into coverage to the secondary easily handling the Buckeyes' wide receivers and playing physically in run support, the defense was firing on all cylinders. This is a defense I soundly criticized all offseason and they dominated my national title pick. Defensive coordinator Mike Stoops deserves a ton of credit.

4. The freshmen CeeDee Lamb is going to be a star as expected. Trey Sermon was excellent and showed that the game was not too big for him. Linebacker Kenneth Murray was awesome and always seemed to be in the right place. There are others, like Robert Barnes and Grant Calcaterra, who had ups and downs but still made their mark in Columbus. The impact these kids fresh out of high school had on the game cannot be understated.

5. Lincoln Riley – There was a lot made over the offseason about Riley's age and how he would do filling Bob Stoops' shoes. None of that mattered. He out-coached Urban Meyer and had a better gameplan, plain and simple. This win will help recruiting in a huge way as some of those big-time Texas kids heading to Ohio State will now take a longer look at the Sooners if they continue to win.

2. THE FARRELL FRESHMAN FIVE

It’s time for my Farrell Freshman Five, my look at the five best true freshmen I saw this week. Keep in mind, I didn’t see every game or every play, so these are the players that stood out to me.

1. Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor – FAU isn’t a great opponent, but 223 yards and three touchdowns as a true freshman in your second game is impressive no matter what.

2. Oregon CB Thomas Graham – Six solo tackles, a tackle for a loss and two interceptions (almost three) in a big win over Nebraska. Graham is off to a great start.

3. Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb – Five catches for 61 yards for Lamb. Trey Sermon could be on here with his 62 yards rushing and touchdown catch, but I felt Lamb really set the tone of the offense early against Ohio State.

4. Iowa WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette – Four catches for 36 yards and one carry for seven yards isn’t exactly eye-popping, but when you consider he had two touchdowns including the game-winner in overtime, the former three-star had a huge impact for Iowa.

5. Oklahoma LB Kenneth Murray – Five tackles and a quarterback hurry, Murray was in position all night against Ohio State and played like a senior.

3. WEEK 2 HEISMAN BREAKDOWN

Lamar Jackson

My Heisman Trophy list looks very different after Week 2. Here's how things stand:

1. Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield (last week No. 4) – After Oklahoma's big win over Ohio State, Mayfield is the leading candidate ahead of Jackson and others. This win was a Heisman resume builder and we could be watching video of the flag plant in December.

2. Louisville QB Lamar Jackson (last week No. 3) – Jackson's stats are amazing and Purdue and North Carolina are Power Five opponents, but he will need to dominate Clemson this weekend to push ahead of Mayfield.

3. UCLA QB Josh Rosen (last week No. 2) – Five touchdowns against Hawaii is nice and all, but he drops a spot because of Mayfield’s huge win and Jackson’s ridiculous stats.

4. USC QB Sam Darnold (last week No. 7) – The win over Stanford was a big one. He’s still turning the ball over from time to time, but he will be here until the end as USC could run the table.

5. Penn State RB Saquon Barkley (last week No. 1) – The problem with running backs? They drop if they don’t have huge game after huge game. Two touchdowns and 134 total yards is excellent, but not enough to avoid this drop.

6. Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph (last week No. 5) – Rudolph has faced two overmatched opponents, so he won’t move up until he beats someone real.

7. Alabama QB Jalen Hurts (last week No. 6) – A big game against Fresno State won’t move him up, but he did look better passing the ball.

8. Oregon RB Royce Freeman (NR last week) – Freeman leads the FBS in rushing touchdowns and is off to a great start.
