Tony Steward is a linebacker prospect from St. Augustine, Fla. and he will be one of the most sought after prospects from the Sunshine State in 2011. Steward, 6-2 and 225 pounds, already had some big time scholarship offers from such teams as Florida State, Florida, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas Tech and others. Now you can add three new ones to his list in Alabama, Louisville and UCLA.
"I was surprised by the Alabama offer but that showed me I could play at that (highest) level," Steward said. "I don't know too much about them but I do know that they are a pretty good school that won the SEC and the national championship. Alabama has very good athletics and is one of the top academic schools in the SEC. I like the coaches and I will probably go visit them at some point for sure.
"I am not about Louisville but I know they play in Kentucky. They have good coaches and I like Charlie Strong there. I had a good relationship with him while at Florida. I may go to their camp this summer.
"I would love to visit the west coast and the UCLA. The coach said they have one of the best places in California. It (L.A.) sounds like a great place to be. I don't know much about them (the program at all) but I want to get out there and find out."
Steward, from Menendez High School, recorded 143 tackles, two interceptions, forced seven fumbles, recovered five fumbles and batted down five passes last season as a junior. He will be ranked among the nation's very best linebacker prospects.
"Right now I am open and I am also hearing from schools like Texas and Oregon. I am going down to Miami next weekend. I am going to the Nike camp down there and I may visit Miami."
