Three more offers for Wetzel

Pittsburgh (Pa.) Brashear offensive tackle John Wetzel has taken his time throughout the recruiting process and it appears as though his patience is paying off.
While some prospects make early decisions before they know what schools will offer down the road, Wetzel has patiently waited as other recruits have been snatched up and his named has moved up recruiting boards.

The 6-foot-7, 266-pound tackle recently picked up three new scholarships, bringing his offer list to nine.
"I've got offers from Marshall, Toledo and Bowling Green," said Wetzel, who also holds offers from Akron, CMU, EMU, Miami-OH, Ohio and New Hampshire. "Toledo offered the day after Christmas, Marshall offered last week and Bowling Green just offered today."
While Wetzel has plenty of schools to choose from now he still isn't in a hurry. He appears to be waiting on two schools from BCS conferences before he makes his choice.
"Right now I have one official visit planned to Boston College," he said. "That's for next weekend. Their coaches are supposed to be coming tomorrow and they've basically told me they're going to offer. They just wanted to meet with me. I know their head coach might leave to go to the Jets but they might offer me anyway.
"The week after that I'm probably going to head up to UConn and they're basically said the same thing as Boston College. I want to wait and take those two visits and see where things stand after that."
Wetzel said he does not have any favorites of the nine schools that have already offered. He may visit one of them, in addition to BC and UConn.
"I was going to visit (Miami-OH) but since they changed coaches they said I might as well visit another time. They're a school I'm probably going to visit sometime this month. I play basketball so it's been tough to take visits."
While Wetzel entertained interest from several smaller schools for basketball he made it clear that his future is on the gridiron. Despite that he has shown a lot of talent on the hardwood, where he participates in AAU over the summer.
At a recent basketball tournament Wetzel was named MVP after scoring 39 points, grabbing 21 rebounds and blocking 11 shots in the championship game. That win brought Brashear's record to 6-3.
