Thorpe focused in on three

Neptune Beach (Fla.) Fletcher offensive tackle Derrick Thorpe has landed offers from more than a half dozen colleges, but with just a few months remaining before Signing Day he has narrowed his focus to three schools.
"My top three are USF, Arkansas, and Georgia Tech," Thorpe said. "They are pretty much all about the same. Those are the three teams that are trying the hardest. I like all three of their coaching staffs. I get along with all of them pretty well."

So far, the 6-foot-3, 250-pound lineman has kept his recruitment very low-key and not given it much attention.
"I have not taken any official visits yet," Thorpe said. "I haven't scheduled any. I plan to take them after our season is over."
While he is yet to take an official visit, the Sunshine State product did make his way a bit south for an unofficial visit earlier this season.
"I visited USF for a football game earlier this year," Thorpe said. "I went to the Western Kentucky game. The stadium is real big. That was real nice. The locker rooms are nice. It was a good experience. It was a good game to watch."
When it comes time to decide between his finalists, the three-star lineman said that he is looking for a couple of things in whatever school he opts for.
"I am looking for a good coaching staff," Thorpe said. "I would like for it to be close to home, that is a factor, but it isn't a huge factor. That is about it."
Thorpe is pleased with how his senior season with Senators has gone thus far, but knows a big test awaits him and his teammates in early November.
"Our season is going great," Thorpe said. "We are 6-1. We play Buchholz this week, then we have a bye, and then we play First Coast."
Academically, Thorpe has yet to take a standardized test but plans to in the near future.
