further.
"I've got an unofficial visit coming up Nov. 9 at
South Carolina (for the Gamecocks' game against Arkansas)," said four-star
LaGrange prospect
Skyler Thornton. "Those are two
of my top five teams right now, so I'll be watching both of them pretty
close, especially South Carolina. I want to get a good look at them. They've
probably been showing more interest than anybody here lately. Coach (Joker)
Phillips always calls every week on the same day at the same time."
A member of the Rivals.com
Southeast
Top 100 team, Thornton (6-0, 195, 4.45) is also considering
Auburn, Florida and Georgia. He's already made unofficial visits to those
three for games this season.
"They're all pretty even as of now," he said. "Maybe
in a couple of weeks I'll have a better idea after I see how that South
Carolina game goes."
Thornton said it's unlikely he'll add any other
teams to his list, although continues to get regular calls from Maryland and
he made an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech this past weekend for the
Virginia game. "It was alright," he said, "but I haven't really been
thinking about them too much. I was just invited, so I decided to go watch
the game."
High-rated Georgia backs Kregg Lumpkin (Georgia),
Jason Evans (Penn State) and Danny Ware (Georgia) have already wrapped up
their recruiting process, leaving Thornton as the best state's top runner on
the market.
Through seven games this season, he's rushed for
1,050 yards and 19 touchdowns in leading LaGrange to the No. 1 ranking in
Class 3A. As a junior, he rushed for 1,592 yards and 21 touchdowns.
