Thornton ready for monster match-up

Katy, Texas, is the place to be this week in the Lone Star State. That’s when defending 5A champion Katy does battle with hated rival Katy Cinco Ranch. It’s a battle that will feature two highly-ranked teams and one of the state’s best linebackers Paul Thornton of Katy High.
“It’s the biggest game in the state,” Thornton, who is 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, said. “It’s for the district championship. It’s for everything, bragging rights, district, you name it.”

Thornton said he’ll be ready.
“They like to run the spread offense,” he said. “So that means we’ll have to be really ready at linebacker and in the secondary.”
Thornton said with such a big game on his mind, recruiting is hardly at the top of his list. But with offers from Northwestern, Kansas, Missouri and Duke he can’t help but think about it every once in a while.
“I’m also getting calls from Colorado and Utah just called me,” Thornton said. “I’d kind of like to take a visit or two to one of the Northern schools when the year is over, maybe see what it’s like at Northwestern and at Duke, too. I’m just not really worried about the decision at this point.”
