Thornhill, a 6-foot-1 and 205 pounder from Lansing (Mich.) Eastern, had also been drawing interest from Toledo, Central Michigan, and others.
Thornhill made close to 40 tackles and caught 33 passes during his junior season. He played strong safety and wingback, but is projected as an outside linebacker by the Spartans.
Thornhill, who has a 3.6 GPA and scored a 17 on the ACT, is the younger brother of former Michigan State linebacker Josh Thornhill.
