Thompson talks favorites, decision timetable

Warren Thompson

Warren Thompson knows how much time is between now and Signing Day 2018, but the four-star wide receiver is operating with a sense of urgency anyway. He’s formed certain opinions and taken a handful of campus visits.

It’s why he doesn’t mind tossing out a list of seven schools that currently lead his recruitment. Florida, Miami, Florida State, USF, Penn St, Mississippi State and USC are the programs the Seffner (Fla.) Armwood receiver has identified as favorites.

And now that he’s done that, he’ll pull back the recruiting reins s a bit.

“For now, I’ve shut down my recruiting process for the season,” Thompson said on Friday. “I’m not on social media right now, so I haven’t been talking to coaches or anything like that.

But exceptions to Thompson’s rule exist. Totally shutting down your college recruitment is harder than it sounds when you’re one of America's top football prospects.

“I talked to Miami a couple days ago,” Thompson said. “They just want me to visit again and they told me they really want me there.”

Thompson has identified a pair of possible commitment scenarios. Nothing is set in stone, but he’s starting to compose the rough draft of a timetable. There’s at least a possibility of Thompson making a choice in relatively short order.

“Hopefully, I’m trying to make a decision right after the season,” Thompson said. “If I don’t I’ll hold off until my Signing Day.

IN HIS WORDS: “I’m looking for playing time mostly. I think I can adapt and fit in to any school I pick, so it’ a lot about playing time.”

RIVALS REACTION: Pulling Thompson out of the state of Florida won’t be easy. The Trojans have positioned itself nicely with him for the time being, however. The biggest hurdle is the distance, as Thompson says he won’t visit USC until he’s able to use an official visit to do so during his senior season. The in-state schools have an early leg up in Thompson’s recruitment for the time being.
