Thompson talks Cal junior day

Shurod Thompson was one of the top 2016 prospects at the Cal junior day this past weekend and he landed his first Pac-12 offer.
Landing the Cal offer was huge for the Pittsburg, Calif., safety especially because it's so close to home and it's been a program he's followed for a long time.

There are no decisions planned especially since it's so early but the Golden Bears will definitely stay high on Thompson's list as his recruitment continues.
"I got there a little early and I saw the presentation," Thompson said. "I got to the field and watched the practice. It was really intense out there. The intensity level was high. I liked it. I enjoyed it.
"I ate a good lunch. The tacos were on point. I talked with coach (Sonny) Dykes and he offered me there. He said they really liked me and they want me to be a Bear someday."
Cal and Weber State have offered the 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back who shined at the recent Pylon Sports 7on7 in Las Vegas. He was also a standout at the RCS Northern California.
Arizona State and San Jose State have also reached out to the 2016 prospect early on. Thompson said the Cal offer is important and he's going to keep an even closer watch on the program.
"It's good because I could get a great degree from there and it's close to the family," Thompson said. "I like what coach Dykes is doing with the program.
"I'm taking it slow. Hopefully I get some more options. I want to take it slow and take some more visits and trips and that's about it."
