Thompson shedding his sleeper status

Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange safety Lucas Thompson has been labeled a sleeper, but colleges are starting to take notice. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back has seen his offer list grow to five after his most recent one came in today.
"I have offers from Indiana, Washington State, Purdue, and Temple," Thompson said. "I was also offered by SMU today. My coach just gave me a phone call and said he will have all the information for me tomorrow."

One of those five schools have interacted with Thompson more than the others.
"I have been talking a lot with the defensive back coach at Indiana," Thompson said. "He has told me that I am one of the top safeties on their board and that I would have a chance to start early on."
In addition to his offers, Thompson says he is also hearing from Florida State. He has previously spoken with Rick Trickett, who is his area's designated recruiter. This past weekend, he also made his way on campus where he participated in the Tallahassee Nike Football Training Camp.
"He told me they are highly interested in me," Thompson said of Trickett. "They want me to get them my highlight tape and transcript and they will go from there."
Prior to visit Florida State, he had also been on campus at Florida for their most recent Junior Day.
"I liked their stadium a lot," Thompson said. "I talked to their defensive backs coach, Coach (Travaris) Robinson. He talked to me about my highlight tape."
When it comes to finding the right fit in college, Thompson said his desired major will play a role.
"I want to find a place that has my major," Thompson said. "My major was going to be physical education or physical training. But other than that, I am really not looking for anything specific."
The punishing safety recently recorded a time of 4.56 seconds in the 40-yard dash at a recent combine.
