Thompson picks up big SEC offer

Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood Catholic tight end Colin Thompson has received 11 verbal scholarship offers so he's getting used to it when a new school comes along.
That said, nothing could have prepared him for the news he received on Thursday.

"I got an offer from Alabama today," Thompson said. "It was around 3:30 in the afternoon.
"I had sent my film out to coaches across the country. I got another letter from Alabama requesting my film again. I sent it in and I got a couple of letters from them but it didn't seem like a big deal.
"When I get a new offer my coach usually calls me into his office. He did that and I actually thought it was going to be Purdue because they're going to offer soon. He said it's Alabama and he said coach (Nick) Saban wanted to talk to me.
"I started talking to the recruiting coordinator for this area and he put me on the phone with coach Saban. It was incredible talking to him. I just imagined all the people he's talked to before. His voice is so distinct. Words can't describe how excited I was to have an offer to go to Alabama. They're one of the top schools every year."
Are the Crimson Tide high on his list?
"I haven't been there so I'm not going to say, 'I'm all for Alabama,' because I like to do my research," he explained. "I really don't have a top five or anything like that but I'm sure they'd be around my top five. I just can't put a number on it yet or narrow it down. It's an exciting offer."
Florida, Michigan State, South Carolina and Wisconsin are some of the other schools that have offered Thompson.
What does the future hold for the 6-foot-5, 255-pound prospect?
"I'm flying out tomorrow to go to Notre Dame," he said. "It's for a junior day and one of their basketball games."
