Thompson favors in-state schools

Offensive lineman James Thompson took an official visit to UNC this weekend, and the Heels were able to improve their standing with the Palmetto State prospect. However, was it enough to push them into contention with the two in-state schools?
"I would say UNC is a solid third right now," said Thompson. "I saw a lot of things I liked and I think they've got the program headed in the right direction. But I'm still going to have to say that Clemson and South Carolina are my top two. Just being the in-state programs with great coaches and good fan followings -- that's what I really like about them."

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound tackle from Sumter, S.C. has official visits to South Carolina (Jan. 16), Clemson (Jan. 23) and Florida State (Jan. 30) remaining, and all three of those schools have offered a scholarship to Thompson.
"I'm sure I'll have coaches coming by between now and Signing Day, and everybody will pick up the pace. The coaches at all those schools I've mentioned have been really good about respecting my opinions and no one is really trying to force me into anything."
Thompson is rated the No. 35 offensive tackle in the nation according to Rivals100.com, and is the No. 14 overall player in South Carolina.
