Thompson committed, keeps eyes open

Denton (Texas) Guyer defensive lineman Carl Thompson committed Kansas during the summer, and in late September he took his official visit to Lawrence.
"I really loved the campus," Thompson said. "The things that really got me is I really liked the weight room and the strength and conditioning coach. The weight room is really what got me because I'm just excited to get bigger and stronger."

Thompson was hosted on his visit by Daniel Wise, who graduated Dallas-area program Lewisville Hebron, and the two developed a quick connection.
"It was nice," Thompson said. "I related to him because we're from down here in the same area. We connected well and I met all the other players and they seemed really cool too. It just seemed like a family environment and I really liked it."
Overall his experience at Kansas was very positive.
"When I went I don't know how to describe it," Thompson said. "I just felt at home as soon as I got there."
Since his visit Charlie Weis has been fired as the Jayhawks head coach and there are a few questions surrounding the program. Thompson feels good about Kansas, but he is also looking out for his future.
"I'm still committed right now, but I'm opening up and seeing what other schools have to offer," Thompson said. "I'm probably going to take some more officials because I don't think it would be good to go there and have a whole new coaching staff come in and me just be someone they don't know."
Any official visits he takes will likely be after his senior football season. He has not scheduled any at this time, but Nevada, Houston, Iowa, and Texas Tech are a few schools who have expressed an interest.
Thompson is currently focused on his senior season as Denton Guyer prepares for what they hope is another title run in 2014. The Wildcats are currently 4-1 on the season and Thompson has recorded 24 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, 12 quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Thompson and Guyer take on Keller Fossil Ridge on Friday night.
