Thompson books official visit

Shortly after a de-commitment from Cal, Shurod Thompson is back focused on the recruiting process in a serious way.
The four-star defensive back who transferred to Brentwood (Calif.) Liberty from Pittsburg, Calif., for his senior season has narrowed his list to seven schools.

And now he has scheduled his first official visit to Oklahoma for the weekend of Oct. 2 when the Sooners host West Virginia.
There are many reasons why Thompson likes Oklahoma - its history and tradition, its success recruiting the state of California.
Two others: Coach Bob Stoops and defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks.
"Everyone knows Oklahoma is a prestigious football program but that's not what attracted me most," Thompson said.
"It was coach Cooks and coach Stoops. They know how to develop their guys to the next level."
So Thompson, who had talked about playing with friend Jordan Parker in college but seems to have backed off those statements recently, has his first official visit in the books.
Arizona State, Boise State, Colorado, Oregon State, UCLA and Utah round out his top seven and the four-star prospect is seriously considering booking trips to ASU and Boise soon as well.
Nothing else has been finalized except for the Oklahoma trip. It is expected that he will take numerous trips throughout the fall.
Rivals.com rates Thompson as the seventh-best safety and the No. 100 prospect in the 2016 class. Thompson committed to Cal in April but decided to reopen his recruitment a few weeks later.
