Thomas set for Signing Day announcement

Detroit Country Day offensive tackle Poet Thomas had an up-and-down recruiting ride, but it will all come to an end on Wednesday. He wrapped up his recruitment with official visits to two schools, and will announce between those programs on National Signing Day.
"I have made a decision, but I am waiting until Signing Day," Thomas said. "I took officials to Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas Tech. Leading up to that my recruiting was up and down."

Thomas had offers from several schools throughout the process that dematerialized for one reason or another. Official visits were planned to be taken to Kansas and Old Dominion in the final weeks of January, but both schools had other prospects take his spot before the trips were made.
An official visit was taken to Arkansas-Pine Bluff the weekend of Jan. 25, and then he immediately turned around and flew out to Lubbock to see Texas Tech on the following Monday. His visit to Arkansas-Pine Bluff was an eye-opening experience.
"Honestly, before they started recruiting me I thought it was just the University of Arkansas and Arkansas State," Thomas said. "Then they started recruiting me and I found out more about Arkansas State.
"They told me about the SWAC Championship game, so I watched the SWAC Championship game and was impressed. Then I went down there and it's different than any other college I've been to. The college makes the town."
Thomas had contact with the old Texas Tech staff, which was rekindled when Kliff Kingsbury was named the Red Raiders head coach. Thomas did not have an offer when he booked the official visit, but picked it up as soon as he arrived in Lubbock.
"They put it out that Monday when I got there," Thomas said. "Texas Tech was absolutely beautiful."
The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Thomas is being recruited by Texas Tech as an offensive tackle. Arkansas-Pine Bluff has told Thomas he could play either on the offensive or defensive lines for them.
Thomas plans to announce his decision during a ceremony around noon ET at his school on National Signing Day.
