Thomas pulls trigger for UTEP

Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall quarterback James Thomas had a stellar junior season that included 1,399 passing yards and 10 touchdowns. Colleges began taking notice and the first one that sent an offer gained his verbal commitment.
Iowa, LSU, TCU, Houston, and many other colleges showed early interest but it was UTEP that sent him an offer over the summer. Towards the beginning of June, Thomas decided it was time for him to make his decision.

"UTEP offered me a chance to play quarterback, where other schools were not giving me that opportunity so I made my commitment for them," Thomas said. "I didn't have any other offers at the time."
However, he has since added an Indiana offer but it doesn't appear another school will factor in his commitment strength.
"No, I'm a solid verbal," Thomas said. "I can't pass up the opportunity to play this position and they're going to let me do it. Therefore, that's what I'm sticking to."
Thomas will be taking his official visit this weekend Oct. 22 along with several other commitments including his teammate and fellow commit Royzell Smith.
"I just want to get a look at the campus on game night," Thomas said. "It's going to be a good time."
