The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets picked up a verbal commitment today from an athlete from Fitzgerald High School. Jemea Thomas committed to Paul Johnson and his Jackets over Purdue, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Georgia Southern, and Western Kentucky (they all offered).
"I called up coach ()Kelly and told him I was ready to commit and he put me on with coach Johnson. Everything about Georgia Tech stood out to me. I mean I love everything about them and I had a great visit up there for the Mississippi State game. It was my first time there for a game and I was very impressed."
Tech is recruiting Thomas to play either safety or the A-back position on offense. Thomas, 5-10 and 185 pounds, is good enough to play on either side of the ball.
"As a safety I am good on my feet. I support the run well and play well in coverage. I feel comfortable back there.
"As a running back I have surprising power and I do have a little speed. Last year I was our leading rusher and scored 15 touchdowns."
Fitzgerald is 7-0 on the season and ranked No. 2 in AA. They face Brooks County this weekend.
Thomas is a very explosive recruit. He has very good speed and is cat quick in the open field and is very dangerous in space. Thomas plays wing back and has experience in that offense.
