Thomas heads West

Stanford University plucked another of Houston's best prospects this week when they picked up a commitment from Nimitz athlete Michael Thomas.
The 5-foot-11 Thomas will join district-mate Andrew Luck as a Cardinal next season.

"Mike is excited about his commitment and it's a bonus to be playing with someone he knows and respects a great deal," Nimitz coach David Suggs said. "They want to go out to California and make a mark for themselves and Houston, Texas football."
Thomas ranks No. 88 on Rivals.com's Texas Top 100 and is the No. 65 athlete in the nation. Luck is No. 9 in the Texas Top 100 and is ranked as the No. 5 pro-style quarterback by the Rivals.com
"It's a great addition for Stanford because of what Mike brings on and off the field," Suggs said. "He's a quality person and a tremendous student-athlete. He is the ultimate team player and he has a special personality. He always has a smile on his and is always going to be a leader."
Thomas stars on the Nimitz football, basketball and track teams and also does a little acting in one-act plays.
"He loves what Stanford offered in the way of academics," he said. "That means a lot to him and his family. He really likes the staff and the head coach and with all of that came his decision."
