Thomas excited by Illinois offer

Offer No. 2 for South Bend (Ind.) Clay wide receiver Wesley Thomas came in late last month from a Big Ten school. The 6-0, 185-pound Thomas talked about what that offer meant to him and detailed upcoming visits earlier this week.
"Illinois was the latest one," Thomas reported. "Their coach had called my football coach and told him they wanted to offer me. Then I called their head coach and he told me. I was very excited."

The offer from Illinois followed a previous unofficial visit to Champaign that Thomas had taken last month.
"I went down there on a junior day, not this past weekend but the one before," Thomas said. "It was on a Sunday and I liked it a lot. I liked the coaches a lot. I was surprised by their great weight room. They had a lot of great facilities."
Thomas is also looking at a trip to Ball State within the next week. He plans to return to Illinois for a spring practice and also will be taking in a spring practice at Central Michigan, which was the first school to extend a scholarship offer. Those two early offers have given Thomas a different take on the recruiting process.
"It made me realize what different divisions I have the ability to play in," Thomas said. "I don't plan on committing anytime soon yet. I'm just going to take a few more visits."
Thomas will also be involved in track this spring. He participates in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x100 meters relay and may do long jump this year as well. His best time in the 100 last year was in the 10.9 range.
