Third offer coming for Valparaiso back

Valparaiso (Ind.) running back Michael Perkins says a third scholarship offer is on the way. According to the 6-foot-0 running back, Bowling Green plans to offer him when he visits campus in the coming days.
"I am going to visit Bowling Green this week, maybe early next week," Perkins said. "Getting that offer is a pretty big step for me. When they visited my school they showed high interest. I made sure I read about the school. Coach Warren Ruggiero came to the school and gave me some great information about Bowling Green. They have a great tradition there, a good staff and a winning tradition. They also have a great education department and its one of the best schools in the MAC. I want to major in education and become a history teacher."

Perkins says Coach Ruggiero and the staff loved his film.
"The other day, I gave them a call," Perkins recalled. "They said they would like to offer a scholarship and come up and visit campus and meet the coaches. They have talked to my coach as well as confirmed they will offer a scholarship."
Eastern Michigan and Illinois State have also offered Perkins. He said Western Michigan and Indiana are showing a high level of interest as well. Perkins said Coach Billy Lynch is his recruiter for the Hoosiers.
"Since day one after the season was done, Indiana has always shown high interest. I love their campus and the coaching staff. They have a nice weight room and facilities. I went there for a junior day and went to a great basketball game. Ever since then, I have had great connections with that staff."
Perkins said he would like to hit some more one-day camps this summer and try to get his name out some more. He and his teammates will participate in a 7-on-7 tournament at Notre Dame this weekend.
"Notre Dame was the first school I got in contact with," Perkins said. "Right after the season started, I got a letter saying I was on their watch list. There is a connection there with Jeff Samardzija (a Valparaiso High School alum). They know Valparaiso turns out good athletes."
Coincidentally, Valparaiso opens their season at home against South Bend area power Mishawaka Penn on Friday, August 21st.
