Things looking better for Powell

Shaquille Powell had dynamic sophomore and junior seasons but the Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman had not picked up any offers until recently when some major programs started getting involved.
It's been a big relief for Powell, a 5-foot-9, 195-pound three-star prospect who currently has offers from Arizona State, Illinois, Vanderbilt and Northern Arizona.

Some are standing out more than others, too.
"It's been great," Powell said.
"I kind of doubted whether or not anything was going to come. When it finally comes it's a great feeling. I appreciate everything that is happening."
Every school is still under consideration but Powell said Arizona State and Vanderbilt stand out the most to Powell, who rushed for 1,292 yards and 17 touchdowns in his junior season. As a sophomore, the Las Vegas recruit had 1,555 yards and 29 scores. He's also an asset on defense.
"All the schools stand out but what stands out most to me is Vanderbilt's education," Powell said.
"I researched it and they have a high graduation rate for minorities. I also like ASU. I know some people that go there and it's a great school and a beautiful campus.
"I think I'm going to take a visit to those schools for sure. I know I'm going to Arizona State in this next month. Vanderbilt and Illinois visits will probably come in the summertime."
Even more programs are getting involved.
Powell, who looked the part at the Los Angeles NIKE Camp, said Notre Dame, Nebraska, Colorado, UCLA and Utah have been sending recruiting mail this spring. The three-star running back has already taken an unofficial visit to Arizona.
