The Roadies: UCLA/USC camps

Juarez did not work out at USC but he did do some linebacker drills during the day at UCLA and he looked phenomenal. The five-star and top-rated player in California shut down running backs during one-on-one drills and showed he was fast enough to beat even the speedy backs to the edge. He didn't get fooled by their footwork and really showed off a great physical presence.
Beast Mode
LB Daelin Hayes | Ann Arbor (Mich.) Skyline
The USC commit was a menace off the edge in pass-rushing situations, blowing past helpless offensive tackles and getting to the quarterback with relative ease. Hayes was also very good against the run during the 11-on-11 portion of the Trojans' camp and also fared well in coverage, putting all of his skills on display.
Raised Stock
ATH Amari Rodgers (2017) | Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic
No matter who lined up in front of him, the new USC commit was able to gain separation and made a number of over-the-shoulder catches. Rodgers, the son of Trojans assistant Tee Martin, has tremendous hands and his knack for getting open deep opened up the slant route, too, which he usually turned into a big gain with his ability to turn up field and make defenders miss.
Physical Specimen
RB Najee Harris (2017) | Antioch (Calif.) Senior
The Alabama commit showed up to USC's camp carrying a Crimson Tide backpack but given how he performed, it was easy to see why so many programs won't let him head off to SEC country that easily. Harris was remarkable as a receiver out of the backfield during individual drills, but he truly shined in 11-on-11 where he could burst through a hole, make a cut at the second level and then explode into open space.
Rising Star
CB RB Stephen Carr (2017) | Fontana (Calif.) Summit
From a footwork standpoint, the USC commit was unmatched last week. Carr glided through individual drills and changed directions very well. That helped immensely during the pass-catching station where Carr planted his foot and shot up field before looking back for the football.
Mighty Mouse
WR RB T.J. Pledger (2018) | West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade
This category fits Pledger perfectly. The 5-foot-8, 168-pound prospect is super fast, super elusive and really difficult to track down. More than any running back at UCLA's camp, the 2018 prospect had the ability to put his foot in the ground, make a move away from defenders and free himself up in open space. Pledger also has such impressive speed to the outside and then he can stop on a dime and cut back away from a pursuing defender.
Buzzworthy
QB QB Jon Randall Belton | West Monroe, La.
If UCLA takes another quarterback in this recruiting class, Belton surely did a lot to impress the Bruins' coaches during the Elite Skills Camp. The three-star prospect has excellent size at 6-foot-3 and 203 pounds and he had a solid showing throughout the day. Belton has some big offers from TCU, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech but if UCLA offers things would get even more interesting. He showed off a lot of skills that might get the Bruins' attention.
Best Arm
WR QB Tua Tagovailoa (2017) | Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis
Tagovailoa has a compact release and the ball zips off his left hand and right to receivers on almost every throw. The 2017 prospect looks a couple inches taller from earlier in the spring as well and that can only help him as he develops as a quarterback. Tagovailoa, who threw at USC and UCLA, had no issues with zip on his passes and really throws a fastball to receivers all the time. There are times where he should dial it back a little bit but there's no questioning his arm strength, especially for a young quarterback.
Sleeper Alert
TE Mason Vinyard | La Mesa (Calif.) Helix
No one surprised more than Vinyard at USC, which has been desperately seeking tight ends the last year or so. Assistant coach Marques Tuiasosopo might have found himself a hidden gem. Vinyard was practically impossible to guard in the slot and caught everything that was thrown his way, proving to be a big target for quarterbacks up the seam and in the red zone.
Tough Guy
LB Jordan Iosefa | Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis
Iosefa has excellent size at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, and he also moves well either when attacking forward, backpedaling in coverage or going sideline to sideline. The three-star USC commit looked especially good during the UCLA workouts, going after running backs in one-on-ones and doing a great job tracking them down in drills. During one rep against a top prospect, Iosefa had tremendous intensity and moved well during it. He won time after time.
Smooth Operator
CB Darnay Holmes (2017) | Newbury Park, Calif.
Holmes worked out at UCLA and, like always, looked really smooth during drills and excellent in one-on-one situations. The 2017 five-star prospect is really quick-twitch and sudden so he can break on passes to knock them down and he has no problems turning and running with receivers. UCLA coaches even moved him to running back for a little bit so the top linebackers could be tested.
Hello World
DL Osa Odighizuwa, Portland (Ore.) David Douglas
The UCLA Big Man Camp was not loaded with talent but Odighizuwa, who committed to the Bruins in early May, dominated the workout and really showed off his abilities. The Portland David Douglas prospect was known as a top recruit but this was the first time we've seen him over a prolonged time and he was great at the camp. The three-star has an excellent rip move plus he possesses a nice blend of size, speed, athleticism and power on the inside.
Traveling Man
DB Chaz Ah You (2017) | Saratoga Springs (Utah) Westlake
The four-star prospect played quarterback as a sophomore out of necessity, so he has tried to get to as many camps as possible this offseason to refine his craft at safety. Ah You was steady in coverage at USC, making a great read on a deep throw to intercept what would have been a touchdown pass. The following day, Ah You stopped by UCLA and did so well in the secondary that he landed an offer from the Bruins, kicking off what should be an eventful recruitment.
Deep Threat
WR Steffon McKnight | San Diego (Calif.) Mira Mesa
McKnight does not show up to many events so it was valuable to see him work out at UCLA this past weekend. The four-star is long and lanky and has sneaky speed to get down the field really quickly or run a sharp route to get open. McKnight dropped some passes but he had recently injured his fingers on one hand so that was somewhat expected. He covers ground quickly, has long arms to outreach smaller cornerbacks and is definitely a major threat down the field.
Bodyguard
OG Netori Johnson (2017) | Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove
Johnson, an early Alabama commit, is absolutely massive at 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds and he's also physical and tough at the line of scrimmage. For someone his size, what stood out most about Johnson was his ability to move his feet and block down the field as well. Johnson is definitely an interior lineman but he moves really well and already has the size of a college OL.
