The Roadies: SPE 15 Elite 100 Camp

It took all of two seconds for Simmons to draw attention at the SPE 15 Elite 100 Camp. He walked through registration and everyone turned to see the massive defensive end. He is a legitimate 6-foot-4, and 250-pounds and he does not have much bad weight on his frame. It is safe to a say all eyes were on the Mississippi standout from the beginning and he did not disappoint.
Fastest
WR Brandon Taylor, Friendswood (TX) Clear Brook
Taylor may not be the biggest receiver around but there was no question he was the fastest. He ran a 4.33 40 on his first attempt and a 4.28 on his second. He then went over to the shuttle where he ran a 4.07 on his first attempt and slipped on his second but still ran a 4.13. Those times are flat out blazing and went unmatched by anyone else at the event.
Best Feet
WR Jerry Jeudy (2017), Deerfield Beach (FL)
Jeudy showed off some fancy footwork throughout the day. He kept defensive backs twisting and turning throughout the day as he kept them guessing which way he would turn next. He was able to shake loose of defenders throughout the day and his ability to change direction at the drop of a hat was easy to spot.
Best Arm
PQB Landon Simpkins, Talahassee (FL) Chiles
Simpkins was the guy the wide receivers knew they wanted throwing them the ball. He threw with accuracy and velocity on short and intermediate routes and he did a good job of putting the ball on target when he went deep.
Best Hands
WR Drake Carter, Cypress (TX) Cy Springs
This was a close one with several receivers making a case, but Drake Carter gets the nod after he made several receptions throughout the course of one-on-one competition. He was able to adjust his body to get position on defenders and he did a nice job of high pointing the ball in jump ball situations. He showed very sure hands throughout the day.
Underclass Achievement
CB Melvin Taylor (2017), Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Marshall
Melvin Taylor entered the day a bit of an unknown, but his name was definitely known by the end of camp. The 5-9, 150-pound cornerback was at the top of his game during one-on-one drills. He showed great balance and excellent hips as he made play after play on the ball. He came out of his breaks quickly and he was able to get the best of the top receivers at the camp on multiple occasions.
