The Roadies: Saugus Under the Lights

Vaughns has been recognized for his fluidity at wide receiver and a knack for
winning one-on-one reps, but he also has very soft hands to match his physical
tools. The Rivals100 prospect was at it again Saturday, snagging everything that
was thrown his way and making it look easy in the process. Vaughns has great
coordination and he attacks the football with aggressiveness in short-yardage
situations.
Best Arm
QB Max Gilliam | Thousand Oaks,
Calif.
The three-star prospect put good zip on his throws all afternoon, continuing a
solid spring that kicked off with a second-place finish at the
Rivals Quarterback Challenge in Los Angeles three months ago.
Gilliam anticipated coverages well and led his receivers, making some great
reads up the middle on crossing routes and putting the ball only where his
teammates could catch it.
Physical Specimen
LB Raymond Scott (2018) |
Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne
Still only a freshman, Scott looked like the cornerstone of a defense that's
expected to make Narbonne the favorite to claim yet another Los Angeles City
Section championship later this year. The 6-foot, 200-pound outside linebacker
moved well toward the perimeter to keep up with opponents out of the backfield,
but he could also drop to cover receivers up the middle. Scott definitely looks
the part early on in the process.
Underclassman Achievement
QB Tristan Gebbia (2017) |
Calabasas, Calif
A few days after picking up a scholarship offer from Alabama, Gebbia
certainly showed flashes that could make him one of the top prospects in next
year's class. He puts good spin on the ball and makes some difficult throws into
small windows. Gebbia has shown good touch on the deep ball hitting receivers in
stride. He displayed good timing on slant routes as well, reading the linebacker
and getting the ball out quickly.
Raised Stock
WR Devaughn Cooper | Harbor
City (Calif.) Narbonne
Cooper had his way lining up at multiple spots in the offense. He showed a good
feel for soft spots in zone coverage, especially in the red zone where he could
sneak into open space and come down with the ball. When he lined up out wide,
Cooper had the same success beating cornerbacks to free himself and then turning
up field as soon as he got the ball in his hands.
Best Feet
CB Ely Doyle (2018) | Valencia,
Calif.
Despite his relative inexperience, Doyle looked plenty comfortable lining up
man-to-man on the edge. He was smooth in his backpedal and disrupted routes by
keeping receivers in front of him. Doyle was physical when he had to be and kept
his feet moving to apply good coverage.
