The Roadies: Mid-Atlantic

Taking part in offseason events is not Bracey's thing but that doesn't mean he's been sitting around. The Rivals100 Duke wide receiver commit only played the first half on Thursday night but he was dominant. Bracey starts at quarterback but saw plenty of time at receiver. On three touches as a runner and receiver, he racked up almost 130 yards and two touchdowns. Bracey had a 65-yard touchdown run and the other touchdown came on a 33-yard catch and run where he carried a defensive back for 10 yards.
Physical Specimen
ATH Jamel Cook | Miami (Fla.) Miami Central
At around 6-foot-4, 190-pounds, Cook and the skill set to play almost any position. The Florida State commit played most of the game on Saturday at cornerback and saw some time as a wide receiver/tight end. Cook moved very well on defense and used his wingspan to his advantage. Coaches love a guy with those measurables that can move that well because there is so much they can do with him.
Underclassman Achievement
DE Chase Young (2017) | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Young was one of those players that benefited from Simmons getting a lot of attention and he really capitalized on his opportunities. He had about 10 tackles and a few sacks. He got a big hit for one of his sacks because he beat his man off the line of scrimmage and got a free run at the quarterback. Expect Young to see more college interest as the weeks progress.
Buzzworthy
DE Keir Thomas | Miami (Fla.) Miami Central
Thomas' enthusiasm and versatility were very impressive. The Florida State commit has the size and quickness to play almost anywhere on the defensive line. It was tough for DeMatha to run at Thomas and he did a pretty good job of chasing plays down.
Fastest
ATH Darryl Turner | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Until he went out with an injury, Turner was the fastest guy on the field on Saturday. Miami Central had two defensive backs covering him, one over top and one underneath, every time he went out for a pass. It's too bad Turner is out for the year with a leg injury but he is expected to be ready to play during his freshman year at Maryland.
Strongest
OL Terrance Davis | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Davis is an absolute bull on the offensive line and he played very well on Saturday. Listed as a guard, Davis plays left tackle for DeMatha and did a good job of opening up holes and setting the edge for running plays. When pass blocking, Davis kept defenders from getting to his quarterback's blind side. If Davis could set his feet and anchor down there was no way the defender was going to beat him.
Raised Stock
DE Yetur Matos (2017) | Fredericksburg (Va.) Chancellor
Matos was very thin when we saw him during the offseason but it looked like he had added some good lower body weight. That really helped him stay strong at the point of attack and to collapse the pocket. Matos definitely has the speed and athleticism to be a very effective edge rusher and he seemed to make big plays in big moments late in the game.
Best Feet
RB Anthony McFarland (2017) | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
McFarland is known as one of the best running backs in the 2017 class and that was pretty easy to see during the game on Saturday. He really excels when he is in the open field and he made plenty of defenders miss with his fancy footwork. McFarland was able to pick up big chunks of yards on outside runs.
Shut 'Em Down
ATH Robbie Robinson | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Robinson isn't the biggest cornerback but he is very explosive, physical and has excellent footwork. Going against a bigger receiver like Darnell Salomon was no problem for Robinson. He held Salomon to zero catches and did a very good job limiting the receptions on his side of the field. It was excellent work by Arizona State grabbing a commitment from Robinson.
Best Quarterback
QB Beau English (2017) | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
English was pretty amped up early in the game on Saturday but once he settled down DeMatha started putting up a lot of points. He went 12 for 19 with three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. English did a good job of finding his receivers toward the sidelines and down the field.
Wild Man
LB Ellis Brooks (2017) | Richmond (Va.) Benedictine Schools
Brooks hits like a ton of bricks and seemingly has no regard for anybody that is in his way. Early in the scrimmage on Thursday night Brooks caused a fumble because of a big hit and those types of blows kept coming. He certainly brings a physical presence to the interior of the defense.
Rising Star
DT Austin Fontaine (2018) | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Remember this kid. There is a reason Georgia was his first offer and Maryland quickly followed. Fontaine had the first tackle in Saturday's nationally televised game and he blocked a field goal later on. Fontaine did a good job of plugging the middle of the field and making sure Miami Central had a hard time running between the tackles.
Smooth Operator
RB Lorenzo Harrison | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Harrison's tough inside running kept the DeMatha offense on schedule but it was big special teams play that earned him this award. Harrison picked up a short punt when Miami Central let their guard down and returned it to the Miami Central one yard line. That type of heads up play will definitely pay dividends when he is on the field for Maryland next year.
Tough Guy
OL Zach Adams | Fredericksburg (Va.) Riverbend
Texas Tech has to like the attitude of Adams. He is the cornerstone of Riverbend's offensive line and played Friday night's game with a bum shoulder. It takes a lot of grit for an offensive lineman to do that. Adams is clearly a competitor and has the frame and skill set to develop into a good lineman for the Red Raiders.
Bodyguard
OL Marcus Minor (2017) | Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha
Minor was another reason why DeMatha's offensive line played so well on Saturday. He is very athletic and plays with a tenacity that every successful offensive lineman needs to have. Minor made some key blocks at the point of attack and at the second and third levels to help spring his running backs for big gains.
