The Roadies: Florida

Dixon was a workhorse on Friday and carried the load for his team. He got more
than 20 touches in the scrimmage and broke a number of long runs. Dixon runs
with surprising power for a back of his young age but also packs a bit of
elusiveness. He rarely goes down on first contact and dragged a defender or two
for multiple yards during his team's victory. Dixon has a chance to be a
big-time prospect as he matures as a runner.
Raised Stock
TE Jacob Mathis | Tampa (Fla.)
Berkley Prep
Mathis played in a shortened game but still managed to show his versatility. Not
only did he catch a touchdown and few long passes, but also dished out one of
the weekend's most impressive blocks along the sideline. Mathis needs to add
weight if he's to play tight end in college, but he is incredibly quick and
effective as a target in the passing game. His blocking is obviously developing
as well.
Dropped Stock
DL Patrick Bethel | Vero Beach,
Fla.
Bethel was solid against the run on Friday but certainly didn't impact the game
like a Rivals250 prospect should. The sample size is small, sure, but you'd like
to see a player of his lofty ranking make more plays. Bethel has nice thickness
and is all of 6-foot-3, but he failed to disrupt the opposing offense with any
consistency.
Best Quarterback
QB Todd Centeio | West Palm
Beach (Fla.) Dwyer
The only thing holding Centeio back is his somewhat limited size and the
occasional poor decision. He's proven to be capable of making every throw and
moves incredibly well when the pocket collapses. A Miami commit, Centeio threw
four touchdowns on Friday and made a few spectacular throws on the run. He
flirted with disaster here and there by throwing across his body, but avoided
any costly mistakes. Centeio intends to look around despite his commitment and
will take a number of visits in the near future.
Best Feet
QB Carson Proctor | Vero Beach,
Fla.
Proctor has a nice build, a strong arm and polished footwork in the pocket. It's
a wonder he boasts just one scholarship offer. But while Southern Illinois is
the only school to make things official so far, plenty of others are sniffing
around his recruitment. On Friday, Proctor showed incredible poise and light
feet while looking impressive in his drops.
Fastest
WR Noah Matthews | Vero Beach,
Fla.
At 5-foot-8, Matthews will be hard sell to a Power Five school, but the
insanely quick slot receiver could help any number of college offenses. He was
one of the most effective players on the field this weekend and broke a number
of long plays. He gets carried away trying to use his speed to turn nothing into
something at time, but that works for him on occasion. When Matthews is headed
up field, he's tough to stop. There's a lot to like about his game as a receiver
and a return man.
Physical Specimen
DE Nick Petit-Frere (2018) |
Tampa (Fla.) Berkley Prep
Petit-Frere is all of 6-foot-6 and boasts long arms that make him a nightmare
off the edge. A 2018 prospect, Petit-Frere plays both offensive tackle and
defensive end and needs to add weight. Still, his frame is beyond impressive.
His length is something that can't be taught and he moves incredibly well for a
young player of his size. He made a number of plays in Saturday's shortened
game. The upside at work with Petit-Frere is limitless.
