The Latest on Randy Estes

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) defensive back Randy Estes, who entered the year as the nation's top safety as well as the No. 1 player in the West region, visited Washington State over the weekend. Two players who also visited Pullman said Estes is a Washington State commit and we talked to Randy's father earlier today to get his thoughts.
"He loved it there," Mr. Estes said. "I don't really want to say anything about a commitment yet because right now, Randy need to pass his test and get qualified. I can say this, that's the only school he's going to visit, he loved it there and I'll let you do the math from there. Randy has been working hard on passing the SAT and will continue to keep taking the test as many times as he can in hopes of getting a score.

"Randy made some mistakes and he has learned from them. He's a 17 year old kid and doesn't even turn 18 until March so he's going to make mistakes. He's not perfect but he's a good kid and not the monster some people are making him out to be. By reading some of the newspaper articles I've seen, you would think he's some Columbian drug dealer or something. He's a kid who is growing up and who happens to be a good football player. He's not a bad kid and I sure hope he makes it because I'm looking forward to seeing him play again."
As many know, Estes started the year at Los Alamitos this season but transferred to Long Beach Poly where he played his first two years in high school. Estes was arrested near the Los Al campus for possession of an illegal substance and many of the schools recruiting him jumped off the bandwagon. The Cougars stayed with him and could be rewarded. According to Mr. Estes, Randy's legal issues are all but settled and won't affect him going to college next year. The only holdup will be passing the SAT and if he does get the score he needs, the Cougs will land a player who could be an immediate starter next season.
