The end is near for top JUCO

The end is in sight for the nation's top junior college player.
Scottsdale (Ariz.) City College five-star defensive end Louis Holmes said he will officially announce his decision at 4 p.m. pst on Thursday in the school's gymnasium.

Holmes, who is 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds, is expected to pick between Arizona and USC. He also officially visited LSU and had offers from UCLA, Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, Tennessee and numerous others. But it's the Wildcats and Trojans that have moved to the top of the list.
Holmes visited USC back on October 7. He came away with amazing things to say about USC and coach Pete Carroll.
"I had to chance to see how USC prepares for a game," Holmes said. "It was different than anything else I've ever seen before. I was just in awe from all those coaches and players. They really stick together.
"I don't mind playing around all good players. I like to compete. Great players want to be around other great players – that's true."
Holmes then took a trip to LSU on November 25, but the visit didn't go over like he wanted and the Tigers were moved to the backburner. That's where Arizona moved back into the picture and official visit this past weekend pushed the Wildcats to the forefront with the Trojans.
"I really liked my visit to Arizona," Holmes said. "It was tight. Coach Mike Stoops is a really great coach. He got me really excited about their future. I could really dig playing for a coach like that. I'm also being recruited by coach Tim Kish. He's been recruiting me almost the hardest since I first got out here."
It was after his visit that Holmes said he knew where he was going and has known for some time. He was then asked again on Wednesday if he still knows where he's going.
"I still know," he said. "It's the same place I've known for a little while now. It's still been crazy around here, though. Everybody keeps calling. I'll be relieved when it's all over."
And it will be on Thursday.
