The Cardinal is red hot

Last Friday BruinBlitz and Rivals100 West tracked down a side to the Michael Okwo (6-0, 210, 4.55) from Manhattan Beach (Calif.) Mira Costa story that wasn’t reported anywhere else. The word was that Owko committed softly to Stanford and now we learn that he is a solid commitment to the Cardinal.
The Okwo commitment caps off a tremendous recruiting weekend for the Cardinal.

The Cardinal gets a player in Okwo who was named California State Linebacker of the Year for 2002.
There was a controversy surrounding Okwo since he missed his schedule trip to UCLA on Super Bowl weekend (January 24th).
According to our source who is very close to the situation, (s)he told Rivals that it was a case of I quit, no you’re fired. Our source said that Okwo told UCLA that he is going to commit to Stanford and UCLA said we’re not recruiting you anymore.
Wherever the truth is, the fact remains that the Cardinal lands a great football player in Okwo.
As a linebacker, Okwo amassed 130 tackles, seven sacks, four fumble recoveries, three caused fumbles, and one pick as a senior.
As a running back Okwo was just as good. He stood out rushing the ball for 2,480 yards and scored 30 touchdowns. Okwo was so good running the football recruiters started to flirt with the idea of playing him on offense.
Stanford plans on playing him at linebacker.
