Texas WR enjoys trip to South Bend

Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider David Nelson committed to Notre Dame in July. He took his official visit over the weekend when the Irish played Purdue.
“The visit went great,” the 6-foot-5, 195-pound Nelson said. “It was nice getting back to South Bend and seeing things again and talking to the coaches.

“The main thing I liked was the way the players responded to the loss. They responded well. They were upset, but the main thing they were doing is looking at the positives. Coach (Ty) Willingham said he knew they played well when I talked to him. Things just didn’t go well for them. I got to sit in on some of the meetings with the team, and eat with them. It was a good experience.”
Despite his commitment, the phone does continue to ring at the Nelson home.
“Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Pittsburgh call every once in a while. They are just checking in with me since we built a good relationship. I’m very confident in my decision and the coaches are fine with it. Another one that I have exchanged e-mails with is Kansas State’s coach (Greg) Peterson. I haven’t gotten a call from Coach Peterson yet this fall. He was one of the nicest guys I have been around. He will call, I am sure just to check in with us and see how things are with our family. He is that type of guy.”
On the season, Nelson has helped lead his team to a 5-0 record. He has hauled in 24 passes for 390 yards and five touchdowns.
“I won’t take any other official visits. I will probably go back up to Notre Dame for their banquet on Dec. 3 and I want to get there for their spring game.”
