Texas tidbits: Horns ready to finish in-state

There aren't many in-state prospects holding Texas offers that are left for the Horns to recruit going into the summer. On the other hand, the two uncommitted prospects holding offers, Richetti Jones and Lennon Creer, are definitely becoming hotter prospects by the day and things are getting interesting in the race for the two Texans.
Creer, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound running back/athlete, is certainly having a big recruiting process on top of receiving an offer from UT. The competition is steadily increasing considering a team like Miami became the most recent school to offer the East Texas product.

At the same time, Texas has given Creer a deadline to decide – June 4. Not looking like a coincidence, that is also near the same time of the Longhorn's camp this summer where other running backs will be on hand trying to earn an offer.
"June 4 is what they told me," Creer said. "I don't know if I'll be ready, but I've already kind of thought I'll have a decision in late May or early June if possibly anyway."
If Creer doesn't feel ready to decide, he may take some out-of-state visits before deciding. Miami, with their recent offer, and LSU look like possible destinations.
Nonetheless, Texas still leads the way.
As for Rivals100 defensive end Richetti Jones, the other uncommitted prospect holding an offer from the Horns, things continue to heat up for him as well.
Florida State, Florida, Arkansas and Notre Dame are some of his recent offers. With each one that comes, Jones appears to be more and more quiet about one leader. Though it's hard to give the nod to anybody but Texas, the 6-foot-3, 234-pounder maintains he's opening things up.
"Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida State, Florida, Notre Dame, Southern Cal, and LSU," Jones has said about his top group of teams. "I can't go to all of these schools. I know that and there really isn't much I can do about it."
"It's almost caused me to look around and just step back a little bit."
Just how far Jones will step back remains to be seen. However, if he doesn't graduate in December like he has planned to do, he mentioned that a Signing Day decision could be very possible.
Linebacker Derrick Stephens, committed to Texas A&M, still holds a Texas offer has been off and on in recent reports about his interest in the Longhorns. As for now, he's solid to the Aggies. Nonetheless, it appears that UT will not be giving up on him early.
Morgan says he's not committed, yet
Word came out that LSU had picked up yet another commitment from a Texas offensive lineman prospect last week – well almost.
Scholarship offers were coming left and right for the 6-foot-4, 336-pounder. LSU coaches stopped by the school and Morgan was told that an offer was coming from the coaches. However, the big prospect may have had his excitement misinterpreted.
"I told my coach that I might commit," Morgan said. "I guess they took it the wrong way and thought I committed already. I'm still not sure."
Morgan says that his top four teams include not only LSU but also Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Miami. Apparently the Irish, Sooners, and Hurricanes could all be close on an offer soon for Morgan.
Will a commitment come in the near future or will Morgan continue to wait it out?
Stay tuned.
McDougald wraps it up early
After thinking it over, Iola, Texas offensive lineman Rex McDougald decided that he was done with the recruiting process.
Baylor was the first team to show him interest by way of an offer and that's all it took for him to make a decision.
"It just seemed like the best," McDougald said about the Bears. "They're a real good academic school. Coach Gary Joe Kinne is a really good guy. I feel this is what I've been working for."
Interest was also coming from Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas Tech. However, it appears the early decision will be the final one for the talented young man.
McDougald played fullback, linebacker, and also put in time on the basketball court during his high school career.
A&M gets another running back
After the commitment of Bradley Stephens, it was clear that one more running back was likely before the 2007 group was all wrapped up.
That came from Pflugerville (Texas) Hendrickson runner Joseph Reese. The visit for the junior day at the beginning of the year really made a difference.
"It was really nice," Reese said about College Station. "I liked A&M more because I had been there."
In fact, upon leaving from his next visit to College Station a couple of weeks ago, he let his girlfriend know first what his decision was just seconds after he was leaving.
"Right after we left, I told her I'm going to A&M," Reese said.
Though Reese wanted to wait to take some more visits, he decided to just get things out of the way. It appears that the running back class is definitely looking good with both prospects in the fold.
Oklahoma State gets No. 2
The second commitment came down for the Cowboys Tuesday when defensive tackle Tyrell Higgins called his recruiting coach to end the process.
"I talked things over with my family, I thought about some things and committed to Oklahoma State," Higgins said. "I made it official because I had been thinking about it for a while."
Higgins was being recruited by OSU assistant Doug Meacham.
"He's a down to earth guy and it doesn't seem like he'd be the real strict type," he said. "It's just someone I'd want to play for."
Fort Bend Marshall has the talent
There have been several schools popping up in the state of Texas that are loaded with 2007 prospects. Familiar names have included Cedar Hill, Houston Yates, Corsicana, South Garland, and many others.
However, Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall could be one of the best this year for having the most Division I talent.
First was running back Jamarion Cavness who made an early commitment to TCU over several other offers. Things didn't stop there.
Last week the talent-rich schools saw defensive back Kendrick Matthews and defensive end Tyrone Sonier make early decisions for Kansas State.
If that wasn't enough, two other prospects have emerged with early offers. Fellow defensive end Anthony Green has picked up early ones from Mississippi State and UTEP. Word is coming out that an early commitment from Mississippi State could be coming down the pipe soon.
Linebacker Justin Adams has grabbed an offer from UTEP as well along with New Mexico.
Recruiting coach Michael O'Guin says that it may not be over there either.
"We could have up to eight guys that sign Division I scholarships," O'Guin said. "We've really got a lot of talent. It could be this way for the next couple years as well."
Etc.
Tyler Lee receiver Jacob Amie is claiming a big new offer list… Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Kansas State, Rice, and Texas A&M are all ones that he says are in hand…UCLA and Missouri could also be close…Watch out for Jacksonville, Texas runner Carmen Boyd-Anderson… One offer is already in hand from Kansas State but apparently Nebraska and Iowa are close according to his coach…Houston picked up a commitment this week from Friendswood linebacker Bo Mosley…His teammate Robert Hall may be following his teammate as well, but continues to say he's open.
