Texas safey hits hard, has offers

When looking for one of the hard-hitting defensive backs in the Lone Star State it's easy to rattle off some of the big name guys ranked in the Texas top 100. But some times early on in the recruiting process guys that fit that bill can get overlooked by recruiting analysts. One such player is Copperas Cove, Texas, safety Tim Atchison.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety from Central Texas hasn't gotten as much attention in the media as some of the other defensive backs in the state, but the college coaches are very aware of him.

"I have offers from Purdue, Georgia Tech, New Mexico State, Tulsa, UTEP and Louisiana Lafayette," Atchison said. "I also got calls in May from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. I went down to Texas for one of their junior days, too."
So why do the college coaches covet Atchison?
"I like to play in the alley and come up and make big hits on run support," he said. "I'm a hard-hitting safety. That's just my style."
Atchison said the most exciting coach that he's talked to this spring is A&M assistant Mark Tommerdahl. He hopes to head to College Station in while for an unofficial visit before the Texas 7-on-7 State Championship.
"We're already qualified," he said.
"I've been mainly playing on defense for the team this summer, but I might end up playing both ways in the tournament. I want to help us come back with that state title."
