Texas safety an emerging prospect

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - D'Anton Lynn thought he had this recruiting stuff figured out. The talented Lone Star State defensive back had begun to narrow down his college choices and set a timetable for a decision to be made before his senior football season. But after an impressive performance at the USC Rising Stars Camp in late June, Lynn has had to take a step back and reassess the process.
Even though he was only there for a day, Lynn's performance at the camp was impressive enough to garner a scholarship offer from Pete Carroll and company. Soon after, the Florida Gators followed suit with an offer and suddenly Lynn has become an emerging commodity in recruiting circles. After leading his Celina team out of the early round competition and into the Friday quarterfinals at the Texas 7-on-7 State Tournament the three-star was able to catch his breath long enough to talk about the current state of his recruitment with Rivals.com.

"I'd like to pick a school before the season," Lynn said. "But now that things have really begun to pick up I'll have to see what happens."
The 6-foot-1, 177-pound safety has cut his list down but still has some work to do before he makes his final decision. "I had cut my list down to five schools, but now that Florida offered, it's a list of six," Lynn said.
That list consists of Arkansas, Florida, Louisville, Penn State, Texas Tech and USC.
With a list of schools as geographically diverse as he has, Lynn has been busy trying to see as much as he can in order to make a preseason decision. After his day in Los Angeles, Lynn jetted east to Penn State for a camp on the State College campus. Lynn will head to Gainesville, Fla., for the Gators' Friday Night Lights camp next Friday night.
Lynn, who spent most of Thursday's action at safety, says that all six of his schools are recruiting him to at least start out at cornerback.
"All of the schools want to try me out at cornerback," Lynn said. "They say that with my size they can always move me back out to safety if they need to."
Though he spent most of the day playing strictly defense for Celina, his role during the season will take many forms. He'll spend plenty of time on the offensive end during the season, primarily at running back but also at quarterback when necessary.
As the leader of a small high school program in Texas, Lynn will have plenty to worry about once Friday nights kick off this fall. That's why he is working hard to make a college decision this summer.
Lynn is a high (5.7) three-star rated prospect by Rivals.com.
