Corsicana, Texas, running back Jay Finley is one of those players in Texas that often get overlooked by reporters and even by some college coaches. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound running back has one offer on the table, but is getting attention from quite a few others.
"I just have an offer from Baylor right now," Finley said. "OSU, A&M and Texas Tech have all said they might offer me after they see me play a couple games this year. They told me they are going to be watching close. I've been talking to those teams a lot, and I've been getting a lot of mail from Utah and Arizona."
Finley, who rushed for 740 yards and six touchdowns and had 12 receptions for 80 yards, said he does have a leader.
"Baylor is the leader right now," Finley said. "If I go there I'll have a good chance of starting. Oklahoma State is my favorite college team. Tatum Bell and Barry Sanders are my idols, so if they offered I would definitely be interested. I have a cousin and a teammate that go to Tech, so I'd have them if I went there."
Finley does have reasons for picking a school in mind.
"Graduation rate is important," Finley said. "I want to go to a place that is dedicated to graduating their players. How fast I can play is pretty important. I want to come in as a true freshman and play. I know I'll come in and work real hard to be able to do that. If it doesn't work out, I don't mind redshirting as long as I still get to play pretty early."
While he waits to make a decision, he is working hard on getting ready for his senior season.
"I need to gain weight," Finley said. "I've gained about 10 pounds over the past few months. I'm up to 190-pounds now. By the time I get to college I want to be around 200 or 210-pounds coming in. I want to get my 40-yard dash down to around 4.4 so I'll be working hard on getting that, too."
