Texas RB has sports to choose from

Katy, Texas running back James Aston put up impressive numbers last fall on the gridiron. He then followed it up with another great season on the wrestling mat.
“James just won his second straight state championship in wrestling,” Katy coach Gary Joseph said. “He wrestled at 189 pounds and finished unbeaten for the second year in a row.”

This second wrestling title came on the heels of the Tigers’ state championship on the gridiron last fall.
“We finished 15-1,” Joseph said. “We lost the season opener to Lufkin, and then won 15 straight.”
The 5-foot-8 Aston was a key cog in the Katy offense in 2003. He rushed for 2,179 yards on 376 carries and scored 24 touchdowns. He also hauled in 14 passes for 276 yards. Aston also completed one pass, a 50-yard halfback pass that went for a touchdown.
“James has a lot of athletic ability,” the coach said. “He also will have a lot of options as far as college. He gets a lot of mail from schools all over. He hasn’t narrowed his list down at all, yet. It is getting to the point where he will need to do that, but he has both sports coming after him, so he’s got a little more of a decision to make.
“He is ideally looking to find a school where he can compete in both sports at a high level of competition, like the schools in the Big 12 Conference would offer him.”
