Forth Worth (Texas) Dunbar’s Michael Turner is adding punt and kick returns to his running back duties this fall.
During the 2001 season, 5-foot-10, 185-pound Turner racked up 1,087 yards rushing and 31 touchdowns as Dunbar went on to a 9-2 season – losing in the second round of playoffs, something he doesn’t want to repeat this year.
“We have a good group coming back,” Turner said. “We have a strong chance of winning a state championship next season.”
His junior season statistics earned him first team all-district, first team all-area, and honorable mention all-state honors.
So far, eight colleges want those talents for their team.
“Colorado, Iowa, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Alabama, Tulane, and Toledo all have offers on the table,” Turner said. “LSU, Florida and Michigan State have also shown interest.”
Although he hasn’t attended any camps or made any visits yet, Turner lists Colorado, LSU, Iowa, Wisconsin and Florida as his favorites.
Academics will also play a part in Turner’s choice.
“I want to know I’m going to graduate. I want to go to a place where they emphasize academics.”
