Texas quickly picks up Toneil Carter following UGA decommitment

Texas landed a huge commitment on Monday afternoon with in Rivals250 running back Toneil Carter.

Earlier in the day, Carter decommitted from Georgia, where he had been committed to since July. After the decisions of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel to return next season, he chose to change course and commit to the Longhorns.

Texas has been aggressively recruiting in-state talent since the hiring of former Houston head coach, Tom Herman, but Carter represents the first major commitment on his watch. The Longhorns recently offered Rivals100 running back Eno Benjamin, and were expected to try and sway another in J.K. Dobbins away from his Ohio State commitment prior to Carter's flip.

Carter is a solid back that with the ability to hit a seam with pace and drive for big gains. He's a well-built player capable of finishing off tough runs and is a reliable pass-catcher and blocker. He finished this season with 1,100 yards rushing with a 7.1 yards-per-carry average and 17 touchdowns.

Texas now has nine commitments in the 2017 class, Carter is the sixth four-star prospect in that group.
