Texas QB returning home

One of the more interesting stories in the 2007 class of Texas prospects has to include San Antonio (Texas) Churchill quarterback Blair Peterson.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder originally was a 2004 prospect, but has spent his last two years in a Morman mission trip in Argentina. With his plans to be back in the United States in November, Peterson has his father John Peterson, handling his recruiting efforts. Three schools have already offered the talented young man while he completes his overseas work and stays in shape.

"It's kind of a unique situation," Peterson's father said. "Here is a guy that's going to be a 21-year-old true freshman when he enters college this January for spring football. The coaches haven't been able to see him throw other than his high school tape. It's an unknwon deal right now and he can't make a commitment or visit any campuses until he gets home this November."
Peterson's father has been sending out his son's high school tape to numerous schools. That has triggered offers from Idaho, New Mexico State, and UTEP. Michigan, Colorado, Indiana, Boston College, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and North Carolina State also are highly interested.
"Well, Michigan got the commitment from Ryan Mallett, but if there was ever a time when they were going to take two quarterbacks, they said they'd let Blair know first," Peterson's father said. "I think the three offers he has along with Colorado, North Carolina State, and Boston College are his early favorites.
"He hasn't had a chance to talk to these coaches except the one time a week when he can return e-mails over there."
His father, a scout for the Seattle Seahawks, says that his son has all the tools that college coaches are looking for. Blair apparently has been working out with whatever he can in Argentina while trying to throw the ball as much as he can.
"He was benching 350 and when we got to talk to him on Mothers' Day, he bought some weights but only could get 225 pounds worth of weights," Peterson's father said. "So, to compensate, he's been doing 15 reps over eight sets of 225 pounds. He's a left-handed, pro-style, down-the-field quarterback. He's got excellent mechanics, quick feet, and hips in the pocket to avoid the escape."
Peterson will return home in November where he'll take visits and make a late commitment to his choice. However, it appears offers are already flowing in without him even being in the country.
"The coaches know he's not going to decide early," Peterson's father said. "It's just kind of in a holding pattern right now."
