Texas QB heads to the MAC

Two things that don't often get associated much with each other are Akron and Texas.
But the Akron Zips have snagged a very solid commitment from a player that is one of the Lone Star State's best at his position.

Ft. Worth (Texas) Nolan Catholic two-star quarterback Sean Hakes committed to Akron assistant coach Jim Pry last night in an in-home visit. The 6-foot-3, 182-pounder picked Akron over Bowling Green, Colorado State and Ole Miss.
"I picked Akron because of the coaches, the facilities and everybody is really nice there," Hakes said. "They know what they're talking about, and they run a complex offense. It's going to get me prepared to take my game to the next level. They have Charlie Frye in the NFL, and it shows they get their quarterbacks ready with the offense they run."
Hakes, who has family in Ohio, said Akron's run to the MAC championship this season also had something to do with his decision.
"They're one of the best up-and-coming programs in the entire country," he said. "It's an exciting time, and I wanted to be part of it."
