Texas OL grabs big offer

Houston Cy Ridge offensive tackle David Dawson is still adjusting to life in Texas, having moved over the summer from Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech. The 6-foot-5, 350-pound junior did quite well in his first season though, earning first-team all-district honors and, more recently, first-team all-Army Combine honors.
Things are starting to pick up on the recruiting trail as well. A few weeks ago Dawson received his first offer from Eastern Michigan and on Friday he added another major program to his list.

"I was offered by Florida State," Dawson said. "It was really exciting. I talked to coach (Mark) Stoops and he said they really liked my film and were 100-percent offering me a scholarship.
"I had spoken with coach Stoops a couple of times before but [the offer] did come as a shock. I just thanked him and told him I was very excited about the offer."
Dawson and Stoops also talked a little bit about how he could develop as a player.
"He said, and I already knew this, that they just want me to work on getting my lower body bigger and stronger," Dawson said. "I started really working on that before my junior year and I'm really going to concentrate on that this offseason."
Though he is high on the Midwest schools Dawson says Florida State could be a major player for his services.
"Florida State, I think that's a good program," he said. "They're definitely on the rise. I watched them a couple of times this year and I liked what I saw. I was actually really going to try and get with them this offseason and it was just coincidence that they got to me first.
"I'm planning to go out there some time. I've got to talk to my mom and get the financial part of it worked out and everything but it will probably be during spring ball."
In addition to his two offers Dawson feels a handful of other programs could be close to following suit.
"Texas Tech, Michigan State, Miami and Alabama are probably the closest right now," he said. "I talk to all of those schools on a regular basis."
